Jury duty phone scam

Clark County jury manager Kirsten Morrisey said local residents have been receiving phone calls from a man who claims to be with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The man tells the residents that they either missed a court date, there is a warrant for their arrest or they missed jury service, Morrisey said. He then asks for money as a fee to quash the warrant, she said.

“These poor people, they’re totally panicked,” she said.

She called the number where the alleged scam calls originated, but the number was out of service, she said.

“We would never call anybody like that and ask for money,” she said. In rare instances, her office may call jurors to ask them to show up at the courthouse or not to show up, but residents should be wary of any calls requesting money.

Anyone who receives a similar call should report it to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office at 360-397-6079.
