Letter: Persuasive ads brainwash public

The Columbian
Published: August 26, 2014, 5:00pm

The Koch brothers tornados rip and tear at a hardworking Oregon senator, Jeff Merkley, D-Ore. The Koch Industries, Inc., blitzkrieg dumps filthy garbage on my sacred space, “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” programs, which usually limits advertising. The television channels did not run a disclaimer. I will no longer buy products owned by the Koch brothers. I will purchase other brands by companies that contribute to both political parties and give support to the president Americans elect.

My suggestion: Analysis of the simplistic repetition and brainwashing tactics of these ads; and research on the power of suggestion and persuasion on unhappy people who don’t know why they’re unhappy who are at the mercy of hate-mongers and anti-government diatribe.

To stall progress and create stagnation all one has to do is use their money to provide misinformation and create chaos. Do the Koch brothers consider money to fight forest fires also a waste of “their” money? When Georgia Pacific left Oregon in 1981, they left us with enormous clear cuts due for massive erosion and ravaged forest lands. Washington’s Weyerhaeuser replants, and doesn’t abandon you after removing the best from the south side of hills.
