The Aug. 27 Columbian has an encouraging front-page article, “Consumer confidence approaches 7-year high: Report fuels optimism Americans will spend more in months ahead.” I would be overjoyed except that Tuesday’s Huffington Post published an article with the headline, “Marco Rubio hints at a government shutdown fight over immigration.” Government shutdown seems to be the only way the Republicans know how to govern when they don’t get their way.
Think the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and the debt ceiling (and now, immigration). Each time they play the government shutdown card, consumer confidence drops and the economy and we, the American people, take a hit. When will we, the American people, wake up and quit sending Republicans to govern?
