A teenage boy suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car this evening while walking on the sidewalk along Northwest 99th Street in Hazel Dell, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy was struck just after a two-car collision on the street sent one car onto the sidewalk, sheriff’s Sgt. Chad Rothenberger said. At about 6:15 p.m., an eastbound silver BMW attempted to turn left into a driveway just west of Columbia River High School when a westbound maroon Mazda, which was “going way too fast,” hit the BMW, Rothenberger said.

The Mazda then skidded up onto the sidewalk and hit the boy, he said.

The boy was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. His identity and condition were not immediately released.

The man driving the BMW sustained injuries that were not life threatening and was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest, Rothenberger said. The man’s female passenger was not injured.

The driver of the Mazda, an 18-year-old man, was shaken up but not injured, Rothenberger said. His male passenger had a small abrasion on his hand.

The names of the drivers and their passengers were not released.

Deputies used traffic flares and cones to block off the westbound lanes of 99th Street near the intersection of Ninth Avenue as they investigated the crash.

It’s too soon to tell whether any charges will be filed in the incident, Rothenberger said.
