Letter: Nullify Obama’s amnesty order

The Columbian
Published: December 6, 2014, 12:00am

The president’s powers (including executive orders) are limited to enforcing the legislation Congress has passed. Only Congress (not the president) has the legal power to make laws (Article I Section 1 ).

The president takes an oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” and “he shall take care that the laws are faithfully executed” (Article II Section 3).

In failing to preserve, support and defend our borders, and in granting amnesty to illegal invaders, President Obama has violated our laws and ignored his oath to preserve, protect and defend our laws and our Constitution.

President Obama has acted contrary to the will of Congress and to the vast majority of the American people, and to the welfare of our country. Congress can, and must, declare that Obama’s amnesty via executive order is illegal, is therefore null and void, and must not be enforced.
