Letter: Commissioners refuse to listen

Not sure what the heck is going on, but Clark County commissioners have decided they don’t want to abide by the will of the voters regarding the charter. Move one in their anti-will-of-the-people plan is to pass an ordinance to establish the following county departments and offices: public works, community planning, environmental services, public health, community development, community services, general services, human resources, medical examiner, public information and outreach, application services, infrastructure services. Will this prevent the county manager position from managing the organizations for efficiency or effectiveness in response to citizen needs and budget realities?

It also ensures that Tom Mielke’s good buddy Don Benton is safe from a recently proposed dissolution of the environmental services department by moving functions back into the departments they came from. Oh, and surprise, this ordinance is being proposed by Commissioner Mielke.

The people spoke, and the commissioners aren’t listening, again. Please call or write your favorite commissioner, and join the board meeting at 10 a.m. Dec. 16 in the commissioners’ hearing room on the sixth floor of the Public Service Center at 1300 Franklin St. We can find out once and for all if they are capable of listening.
