Letter: A full ban may be motive of coalition

The Dec. 5 story “Gun responsibility group calls for new measures: Mental health services among issues for backers of background checks,” regarding a gun responsibility group calling for new measures is a good example of what the National Rifle Association and responsible gun owners who support our Second Amendment rights have been warning us about.

It’s not the issues that were outlined in this story that concerns me. It’s the coalition of anti-gun supporters under the guise of gun safety advocates who just got their foot in the door with Initiative 594. As the article reads, the coalition has a long and growing list of new initiatives including criminal liability laws and keeping tabs on legislators, which can only mean future harassment.

It’s my opinion that these groups’ long-term goal is to ban guns.

I hope the Washington state voters will spend time scrutinizing their next initiative and its sponsors.
