Eight people were displaced Tuesday when an electrical outlet malfunctioned and caused a small fire inside a Hazel Dell mobile home.

The fire was reported at 9:07 p.m. at Callaham’s Mobile Estates, 10804 N.E. Highway 99, according to emergency dispatch records. Clark County Fire District 6 responded and put out a small blaze inside the outlet, said district spokeswoman Sarah Mitchelson.

The fire started when a resident was installing a new dryer, Mitchelson said.

“When he went to plug it in, it had faulty electrical,” she said.

The fire caused minimal damage to the home. However, fire officials were concerned that the outlet might cause additional electrical problems and asked the residents to accept temporary lodging from the American Red Cross while the mobile home park’s manager arranged to have the outlet checked out, Mitchelson said.

The American Red Cross reported that its volunteers provided the residents with food, lodging, comfort kits and information about disaster health services.
