Week 1 winter sports athlete of the week: Miranda Lea, Skyview gymnastics

Miranda Lea of Skyview gymnastics was voted The Columbian’s high school winter sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Dec 6.

Lea collected 37.5 percent of the 1,415 votes cast by fans to beat out Trevor Jasinsky of Camas basketball, who had 29.9 percent.

Lea won the vault, bars and tied for first on the floor to win the all-around in a meet with Union, Columbia River and Evergreen.

The other nominees were Alyssa Blankenship of Washougal basketball, Kurtis Patterson of Woodland wrestling and Cassie Huit of Battle Ground bowling.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
