Sydnie Cole-Vogler was 6 for 6 from the free throw line and had 16 points and 11 steals as the Hawks fended off a Lumberjacks rally to win their Class 2A Greater St. Helens League opener.

Keeley Nordberg had eight points and eight rebounds for Hockinson (2-3, 1-0 2A GSHL). Cole had seven of her 11 steals in the fourth quarter.

“Syd pulled it home for us,” Hockinson coach Damon Roche said. “She kept us together. We needed it.”

Hockinson trailed after the first period but built a 14-point lead in the third when R.A. Long (0-3, 0-1) made a run.

Roche said Hawks reserves performed well as the team ran into foul trouble in the final period.
