PORTLAND — After several months of settling in, Airbnb’s new Portland home is finally ready for guests.
The San Francisco-based company, which connects travelers and locals willing to rent out their homes, announced in March it would open a Portland outpost that would serve as its North American operational headquarters. It showed off its Old Town digs for the first time on Thursday.
Co-founder and chief executive Brian Chesky, in town for the event, said the company has hired 220 in Portland to date. The company’s footprint here has reached 37,000 square feet, spilling out into other buildings in the neighborhood.
Hosts in Portland will soon have an option to donate a percentage of their revenue to Central City Concern, a nonprofit that serves the homeless, and Airbnb will match the contribution.
