Letter: Duties of senator overextended

The Columbian
Published: December 13, 2014, 4:00pm

I read in Dec. 11 story “Benton gets leadership roles on two committees” that Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, has been accepted, or appointed, to two different committees in Olympia, as chair of the Senate Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee and vice chair of the Transportation Committee.

I believe that this announcement is irrefutable proof that Clark County’s environmental services department is an unnecessary department and can easily be combined with other county departments. If Benton has time to perform all of his many duties as a state senator, then clearly he is not required here to oversee the county’s environmental services as it would seem it can run itself without any input from Benton.
