WSU VANCOUVER SALES COMPETITION

WSU seniors Nick Gaeth, a psychology major, and Chris Miller, a marketing major, were named top competitors among the 34 students participating in a sales competition on Nov. 21. Both won Herman Miller Aeron chairs provided by the founding sponsor of the competition, Workplace Resource of Oregon. Other students honored in the Top 10 category were: Alex Anderson and Derek Kemppainen, seniors, and Emily Vis, a junior, all majoring in marketing; Samantha Bennett, Nicci Johnson and Mike Scheel, seniors majoring in business administration; Shane Hyland, a senior majoring in social sciences; and Eric Lambert, an alumnus returning for sales courses.

Chris Miller and Emily Vis advanced to the national level and will represent WSU Vancouver in April in Kennesaw, Ga. Four students advanced to the regional level and will represent WSU Vancouver in April in Chico, Calif. They are: Alex Anderson, Brianda Contreras, a junior majoring in business administration, Nicci Johnson, and Derek Kemppainen. Two students won scholarships. Chelsea Brown, a senior majoring in business administration, received a $1,000 Pacific Office Automation Scholarship and Derek Kemppainen received a $2,000 Carson College of Business Professional Sales Program Scholarship. The following students won Sales Career Potential cash awards: Randy Kadow, a senior majoring in business administration, received $500 from Tom James Clothiers and Mike Ross, a junior majoring in digital technology and culture, won $500 from Nautilus.

At the competition, students performed sales presentation role-plays, with sales professionals from local companies serving as buyers and judges.
