Police investigate Camas High employee for alleged touching

A Camas High School employee is on paid administrative leave, facing allegations of inappropriately touching several female students.

Camas Police are investigating the accusations, and little information is available at this point, Sgt. Scot Boyles said. The employee in question is a man, and police have not disclosed his job at the school.

“Our investigators are working right now to determine how many potential victims there may be,” Boyles said. “We’re talking about a high school that has nearly 2,000 students, so there’s a lot of interviews that need to happen and a lot of video that needs to be watched.”

Boyles said the district reported the employee to police Wednesday. Administrators placed the man on leave Tuesday, after learning about the allegations, said Doreen Mc-Kercher, the district’s spokeswoman.

District officials are limiting their comments on the situation, McKercher said, as the allegations have not been substantiated. Principal Steve Marshall sent a letter to parents Thursday, explaining that the district won’t share many details and encouraging them to talk to their children.

“It is important that you know that Camas High School and the Camas School District are bound by a level of confidentiality that prohibits us from releasing details that would reveal the identity of this employee,” Marshall wrote. “Members of local law enforcement are not bound by these same restrictions and have, in fact, released more details than we are able to share.”

“I am sharing this for two reasons: First, you will learn more from the media than you will from us and, second, I do not want you to think that we are withholding information in an attempt to minimize this situation,” he wrote.

Marshall also told parents they should contact police if they have any further information to relay about the situation. The Camas Police Department can be reached at 360-834-4151.
