Winterhawks notebook: Bittner selected to top prospects game

This week: Off until Dec. 27 at Seattle. Next home game Dec. 28 vs. Spokane.

Last week: lost to Spokane 4-3, won at Seattle 2-1, won at Tri-City 4-3.

Where they stand: At 19-14-0-3, the Winterhawks have 41 points from 36 games and are second in the U.S. Division, three points behind first-place Everett. Portland is halfway through its 72-game schedule and has played three more games than each of the other four teams in the division.

Bittner selected: Forward Paul Bittner was selected to play in the 2015 BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Jan. 22 in St. Catharines, Ontario. Rated an A prospect in the preliminary rankings by NHL Central Scouting, Bittner has 13 goals and 10 assists in 30 games this season.

The 40 CHL players competing in the game were chosen by the National Hockey League clubs.

World Juniors: Oliver Bjorkstrand (Denmark), Nic Petan (Canada) and Chase De Leo (United States) are at selection/training camps for the World Juniors tournament that runs Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Montreal and Toronto. Bjorkstrand and Petan figure to be prominent members of their teams, while De Leo will try to earn a forward spot on Team USA.
