Boys basketball: Mark Morris 54, Battle Ground 47

The Columbian
Published:

The Tigers started fast, but cold outside shooting doomed them in the championship of the Mark Morris tournament in Longview.

Battle Ground led 24-13 after the first quarter and 32-25 at halftime behind strong play from center Devin Johnson.

But Battle Ground (3-3) went cold in the second half and finished 1-for-16 from 3-point range.

“We started with one of our best quarters of the year,” Tigers coach Wes Armstrong said. “They took Devin away and dared us to shoot from outside.”

Johnson finished with a team-high 16 points. Andrej Besara added 14 points.

Grant Gibb scored 28 points to lead Mark Morris (7-1).
