PORTLAND — The website Gear Patrol, a self-described “gathering place for guys hell-bent on making the most out of their lives,” has named Hillsboro, Ore.-based Big Bottom Whiskey’s Straight Bourbon 111 Proof whiskey to its list of “10 Best Bourbons Not From Kentucky.”

“With their 111-proof bourbon, Oregon’s Big Bottom Whiskey takes the rich flavors of their Straight One and expands them exponentially,” wrote contributor Matthew Ankeny. “The flavors come out bold, and the experience is rich. The bourbon ages for at least six years, taking a small edge off the high proof, but the experience is engaging with the flavors as they come in loud across the palate.”

Ted Pappas founded Big Bottom Whiskey in 2010 and is now ready to transition from blending to distilling. He debuted a new flagship product, Barlow Trail, earlier this year.
