Blazer Beef

I honestly don’t know after Portland went 4-0 on the week and 3-0 in games without starting center Robin Lopez. The Blazers also played one game without both Lopez and Nicolas Batum.

I’ve got nothing. Really. This team just keeps impressing even when injuries and the schedule say they shouldn’t.

Blazer Bravo

The entire triple-overtime game against the Spurs was full of great performances. Damian Lillard had the most notable one with a career-high 43 points, 26 of which came in the fourth quarter and the three overtime periods.

LaMarcus Aldridge was also fantastic in both of Portland’s weekend wins. He bested power forwards of past and future in Tim Duncan and Anthony Davis.

It looks like they are competing with each other for Player of the Week. Lillard averaged 28 points, seven assists and five rebounds on 52 percent shooting and 48 percent shooting from deep. Aldridge averaged 26 points, 14 rebounds, 2 steals and a block in Portland’s four victories last week.

There were big shots from Dorell Wright and Steve Blake in Portland’s dramatic win over the Spurs as well. And Thomas Robinson played an important role was well.

By The Numbers

71 — Damian Lillard’s field goal percentage in 14 career overtime games according to NBA.com.

3 — Portland’s defense is currently 3rd in the NBA in defensive rating, allowing only allow 99.3 points per 100 possessions.

5 — LaMarcus Aldridge has recorded five straight double-doubles and also had a career-high five steals in Friday’s win.

The Week Ahead

Monday at Houston Rockets (5 p.m. KGW) — The first meeting between these two teams since last year’s dramatic first round series that was capped by Damian Lillard’s buzzer beater.

Tuesday at Oklahoma City Thunder (5 p.m., CSN) — Kevin Durant has missed the last two games with an ankle injury. But the Thunder have won eight of their last 10.

Friday vs. Philadelphia (7 p.m., KGW) — The 76ers are still setting the standard for tanking with a 2-23 record as of Sunday.
