Oregon’s ski industry is off to a slow start this winter.

Last weekend’s storm brought some much-needed snow, but also some rain, to the slopes along Mt. Hood.

Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort officially opened Monday.

Dave Tragethon, a spokesperson for the resort, said this year is one of the latest openings on record. He said the resort is about 20 to 25 percent open.

“Our mission is to get our lower lifts operating and to do that we have to supplement snow from the parking lot,” he said. “We’ll haul snow that we harvest from the parking lot to our lower lifts to build the ramps to get them operational so we can get people to the upper part of the mountain where we have more than enough snow for them to enjoy themselves.”

Mount Bachelor, outside Bend, is also open.

So is Mt. Hood’s Timberline Resort, but according to its website conditions vary.

According to forecasters, there’s a chance of snow later this week across parts of Oregon.
