Get ready for a windy cold snap.
Brisk and blustery weather is coming to Southwest Washington this week, according to the National Weather Service, with temperatures possibly dipping into the low 20s. It’s expected to be the coldest weather of the season so far and could last though Wednesday.
Forecasters also issued a high wind watch for today and Tuesday in parts of Clark County, including Vancouver, Battle Ground and Washougal. East winds are likely to pick up speed this afternoon, reaching up to 35 mph with wind gusts of 55 to 60 mph. The wind could cause power outages and isolated damage throughout the region, and winds could reach up to 70 mph in parts of the Columbia River Gorge.
By this morning, an estimated 1 to 4 inches of snow is possible in higher elevations of at least 1,000 feet. Snow may mix with rain in the lower elevations, “but little if any snow accumulation is expected,” according to a statement from the weather service.
Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday “may struggle to reach 32 degrees” in the metro area, according to the weather service, with the coldest temperatures in the low 20s.
