Two people, including a man with a concealed handgun, confronted a pair of teenage boys who were allegedly stealing alcohol from Safeway on Tuesday afternoon in Salmon Creek.

The boys were seen putting alcohol into their pockets and backpacks, said Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Randon Walker. Two people, who didn’t know each other, told the boys that they needed to put the alcohol back or pay for it, assuming they were old enough to buy it.

“They got a very negative and profane response,” Walker said.

The teen boys then left the store and got into a car, at which point the bystanders called 911 at 12:09 p.m. to report the theft at the store, 13023 N.E. Highway 99. One of them told the boys he had a handgun and that police had been called. The man with the handgun never pointed it and had a concealed weapons permit, Walker said.

Although the teens started handing the alcohol out the car window, they didn’t give all of it back and started arguing with the people who had confronted them, Walker said.

“There was a verbal disturbance there at the car while 911 was being called,” Walker said.

Two teenage girls left the store and were met by arriving law enforcement. Deputies determined that all four teenagers had gone to Safeway together and had taken alcohol, Walker said.

The teens face charges of third-degree theft and minor in possession of alcohol.
