Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council.

For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3683.

Boomerang, a new nonprofit in downtown Vancouver, sells donated and consigned items to support local causes. Volunteers are sought to assist customers, organize and price items, decorate, swing a hammer, and to help at the coffee bar.

Humane Society for Southwest Washington seeks volunteers to sort, inspect and price donated clothing, or to greet donors, unload donations from vehicles, fill out donation receipts, and keep the donation trailer orderly. Both assignments require standing for long periods.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is looking for pen pals to exchange monthly letters with a local student, helping the child develop writing and communication skills while building a friendship.

• Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is looking for volunteer receptionists to answer phones, process ticket purchases and help with general office tasks.

Washington State University Clark County Extension is looking for volunteer watershed stewards. After training, stewards work on projects like public outreach and education, stream restoration, water-quality monitoring, classroom presentations and community workshops.

YWCA Clark County seeks new participants for its winter training, which begins Jan. 8, to support its mission of eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Volunteers advocate for victim-survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and represent abused and neglected children in the court system.

For information, an application, or to register for the training, go to ywcaclarkcounty.com/volunteer or contact Nichole Peppers at npeppers@ywcaclarkcounty.org or 360-906-9112.
