Single-family home prices rise in U.S. in November

The median sales price of U.S. single-family homes and condos in November was $190,000, up 15 percent from a year ago, according to the real estate research firm RealtyTrak. In Washington, the median price of $250,000 was up 9 percent for the year. Oregon’s $238,000 median increased by six percent since last November.

RealtyTrak also reported that the median sales price of distressed homes, either in the foreclosure process or bank-owned, was $128,625, the highest since December 2009. Distressed home prices were up 18 percent from a year ago. In Washington, 10.3 percent of home sales were either short or distressed sales, compared to a national average of 12.6 percent.
