The Washington Aviation Association has chosen the Pearson Field Education Center for its Northwest Spirit of Aviation Airport Award for 2014.

The awards honor people and businesses that display “extraordinary passion and commitment to the aviation industry,” according to the group’s materials.

The center, which is run by the Fort Vancouver National Trust, will receive the award at the Northwest Aviation Conference and Trade Show being held Feb. 22-23 in Puyallup.

The education center relocated to a storage hangar on Pearson Field after moving out of Pearson Air Museum a year ago. Director Laureano Mier and volunteers rebuilt the facility in the hangar and have continued to provide educational programs for local high schools and other students through the transition.
