Letter: Benton represents himself

The Columbian
Published: February 6, 2014, 4:00pm

We were asked to attend an event in Olympia to support parity in women’s health. About 300 Washingtonians took time from work and their daily lives to drive to Olympia to attend. Part of the event involved meeting with Washington’s district representatives, and appointments had been requested much in advance.

We met with Rep. Monica Stonier, D-Vancouver, who gave us her full attention. We also met with Rep. Paul Harris, R-Vancouver. But Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, notified our legislative leader that he refused to meet with us. He did not meet with us. We are his constituents and we pay his salary. He works for us. Benton does not equitably represent the 17th Legislative District, and we hope that folks will understand how important it is to vote and to let your friends and neighbors know about people who are running for office. Don Benton represents Don Benton.
