Three third period goals helped the Portland Winterhawks extend their winning streak to 12 games with a 5-3 Western Hockey League victory over the Everett Silvertips on Saturday at the Memorial Coliseum.

The 12 consecutive wins sets a season high, and is three behind the franchise record of 15 set in both the 1979-80 and 1997-98 seasons. The Hawks also had a 14-game streak last season.

Taylor Leier scored two goals for the Winterhawks (38-12-2-3), and Oliver Bjorkstrand had two assists.

Everett went ahead 3-2 at the 2:07 mark of the third period on a shorthanded goal from Kohl Bauml.

The Hawks responded by scoring three goals in a span of just 2:30, as Leier netted his second of the game, and Alex Schoenborn and Nic Petan added goals to give the Hawks a 5-3 lead.

The Hawks are back in action at 2 p.m. Monday in the first of two games at Prince George. The second game against the Cougars is Wednesday.
