Letter: Resolution highlights hypocrisy

The Columbian

From the King James version of the Bible, Proverbs 17:28: “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.”

From either Mark Twain or Abraham Lincoln in various forms: “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”

From Clark County Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke in essence: Integrity is not what you thought it was, nor what the dictionary says, but rather what we say it is in our lengthy, convoluted resolution that we have disseminated to hundreds of government officials throughout the Northwest.

Our commissioners M&M have now spoken (at length) and removed all doubt. They had done so many times before but previously failed to publicize their tortured reasoning and mumbled non sequiturs outside of commissioners’ meetings. Now they’ve planted their brand of “wisdom” on the desks of leaders throughout the region who will either have a good laugh or shed a tear for the long-suffering people of Clark County who must endure such pompous nonsense on a regular basis.

The hypocrisy of M&M (who appointed their crony, state Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, as environmental director) lecturing others on integrity may be lost on the commissioners, but not on the rest of us.
