Tim Martinez: More makeup dates needed

Tim Martinez: High School Sports

I thought I was getting a jump on things Sunday morning.

I went outside to access how things were going in the wake of our weekend of snow and ice. As I saw the thaw begin, I thought it was safe to begin work on this column covering all the postponement makeup dates.

Then I got into the office in the afternoon, driving over clear roads to get here, when all of a sudden a steady stream of school closures for Monday came in — Woodland, La Center, Ridgefield, Vancouver, Evergreen, Camas, Battle Ground …

So much for getting ahead of things. Now, it’s time to play catch-up, and I don’t have all the answers as of yet.

So let’s go over all the reschedule information that I do have, starting with wrestling.

Wrestling

CLASS 4A: The district tournament had been rescheduled to Monday and Tuesday at Camas High School. But with Monday’s closure, it has now a one-day event at Battle Ground.

CLASS 3A: The district tournament will be Tuesday and was relocated to Kelso.

CLASS 2A: The sub-regional tournament will be Tuesday at R.A. Long.

CLASS 1A: The sub-regional tournament will be Tuesday and was relocated to Ilwaco.

GIRLS: The sub-regional will be Wednesday and was relocated to Ilwaco.

Gymnastics

CLASS 4A: The district meet had been moved to Monday at Northpointe, but Monday’s closures canceled those plans. No word yet on when this event will be held.

CLASS 3A: The district meet will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Naydenov.

4A GSHL: It looked like the 4A playoffs would escape any of the reshuffling caused by weather over the weekend. But Monday’s closures bumped the district playoffs to Tuesday when Camas will play at Evergreen in a loser-out game for the district’s No. 3 seed to bi-district. Battle Ground plays at Union for the district title.

3A GSHL: All of last week’s league finales were originally moved to Monday. Now, they are bumped back to Tuesday. The district tournament will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Hudson’s Bay.

2A GSHL: Friday’s games between R.A. Long at Mark Morris and Washougal at Hockinson have been moved to Wednesday.

1A Trico: The last round of league games has been canceled. All of the playoff teams had been decided. The district playoffs open Tuesday with loser-out games. At Castle Rock, King’s Way Christian plays Forks and Castle Rock faces Rainier. At Montesano, it’s Toledo vs. Montesano and La Center vs. Rochester.

Girls basketball

4A GSHL: On Tuesday, Battle Ground plays at Union in a loser-out game for the league’s No. 3 seed to bi-district. Camas plays at Skyview for the district title.

3A GSHL: All of Thursday’s postponed games were moved to Monday and then to Tuesday. If Columbia River and Kelso finish in a tie for second place, a coin flip will determine seeding for the district tournament, which will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Hudson’s Bay.

2A GSHL: The Mark Morris-R.A. Long game has been moved to Tuesday. A makeup date for the Hockinson-Washougal game has not been announced.

1A Trico: Like the boys, the final round of girls league games were called off. The district tournament was slated to open Monday with loser-out games. But Monday’s games at Castle Rock were moved to Tuesday at Kalama, where Ilwaco plays Rainier and Forks plays La Center. Monday’s scheduled games at Montesano — White Salmon plays Hoquiam and Stevenson faces Rochester — are still slated to be played Monday.
