Mountain View had five wrestlers earn district titles Tuesday, but that wasn’t enough to thrust the Thunder past Kelso in the Class 3A district wrestling tournament in Kelso.

Kelso earned the team title with 350 points, outdistancing Mountain View at 325. Prairie was third at 275.

Mountain View was led by district champions William Taisacan (106 pounds), Benjamin Dixon (113), Daron Thomas (126), Kenji Yamashita (138) and Nathan Spires (145). Taisacan, Dixon and Green scored key wins over Kelso wrestlers in the title matches at their weights.

Prairie wrestlers had a big day in the upper weight with five Falcons claiming district titles — Mario Gonzalez (160), Luke Middelstadt (170), Ronnie Evenden (182), Tyler Duncan (195) and Dallas Goodpaster (220).

Also claiming district titles were Darion Green (120) and Gunnar Metzger (152) of Hudson’s Bay and James Niemela (285) of Columbia River.

1A wrestling — Castle Rock had five wrestlers win district titles en route to claim the team title at Ilwaco.

Castle Rock won with 422 points ahead of Ilwaco (258.5), Kalama (231), Woodland (206.5) and Stevenson (176).

Among the local district champions were Steveson’s Cody Miller (120) and Tyler Miller (138) and Woodland’s Zach Wardle, who beat teammate Nathan Cloud to win at 195 pounds.

3A/2A gymnastics — Katie Zink was second in the all-around to lead Columbia River to a team title in the 3A/2A district gymnastics meets Tuesday at Naydenov.

Final official results were not available Tuesday.

Zink and Ridgefield’s Kylee Tjensvold earned berths to state in the all-around. Tjensvold placed third behind Capital’s Keira Lathrop.
