Local fencers to compete at Junior Olympics in Portland

Members of Vancouver’s Northpointe Fencing will be among the 1,200 competitors at the USA Fencing Junior Olympic National Championships, which take place Friday through Monday at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

The event, which is free for spectators, features competition in cadet (under-17) and junior (under-20) age groups for men and women.

Individual competitors from Northpointe are Zakk Marquis (junior men’s épée), Isobel Fife (cadet women’s sabre and épée), Kaela Meehan (junior women’s épée and sabre), Jonas DeLisle (cadet and junior men’s foil), Jazmine Shepard (cadet women’s épée and foil) and Haylie Bolte (cadet women’s foil).

Northpointe will have men’s teams in all three weapons. Levi Condren, Chris Emerson, Dylan Meehan and Josh Meehan are the sabre team. Simon Bard, Condren, Marquis and Josh Meehan are the epee team. Condren, DeLisle, Devon Johnson and Dylan Meehan are the foil team.
