Letter: Same old arguments recycled

The Columbian
Published: February 13, 2014, 4:00pm

Once again, public opinions are rehashing the evolution-creationist debate. This is so old and boring, listening to the same arguments again, over and over, blah, blah, blah.

This is America, and you have the constitutional right to have faith in whatever it is that you believe.

Adherents who believe in a God have faith that their God exists, though it can’t be proven, and the adherents of science who believe in evolution and epigenetics have faith that it exists, and there is a tremendous amount of evidence backing those claims.

Those who ignore or deny the claims of science in these domains will ultimately fail to understand or believe in actions and measures taken by their society and government for the good of the people, where those actions and measures taken assume the principals of evolution and epigenetics.

For those who claim science as ultimate authority, an important point to note is that much of modern science and technology rests on the real number system. We believe in the real number system, although it can’t be proven.

We have faith that it exists, and landing a rover on Mars is a pretty strong testament of that faith.
