Letter: New curriculum is poor standard

The Columbian
Published: February 15, 2014, 4:00pm

Common Core Standards will be implemented by 2014-15 into Washington schools. I just moved here from Texas, and my experience there with Common Core, which was used by several school districts in south Texas, was not good. They were not teaching the Constitution and were teaching things that undermine the Constitution.

Top-down bureaucratic running of our educational system is totally unacceptable. We have already had far too much dumbing down of our educational system. School costs have exploded for taxpayers, and test scores are down due to politicians from Washington, D.C., interfering with our local operation of schools.
