After reading the Feb. 13 story, “Group reflects on Vancouver Lake: After 10 years, partnership formed to address lake’s problems weighs what future will hold,” I realized that I am in favor of the efforts of the Vancouver Lake Watershed Partnership because I think what they are doing is very important.
Not only is this partnership studying problems and why they are happening but it also hopes to expand trails and boat access around the lake, which will make the lake a more appealing place to visit once the toxic blooms and other algae is removed. I think efforts to construct wetlands and plants to absorb algae-fueling nutrients, a water control structure, or additional sentiment removal will be beneficial. Even though the cost has been high, I think the group’s efforts will be very worthwhile.
Before reading this story, I knew very little about Vancouver Lake, even though I’ve lived in Vancouver for the past 15 years. This report was very informational because I never realized that Vancouver Lake’s health was ailing.
