KENT — A Kent police dog who ran off while looking for a suspect late Thursday was found sleeping in someone’s backyard hours later, police said.
Kato disappeared about 11 p.m. after his handler brought the German shepherd to help search for a hit-and-run suspect.
A search team looked for the dog for about 2 1/2 hours before a King County helicopter’s heat sensor found Katu snoozing in a backyard about a half mile away.
