Letter: On principles, our rep stands firm

It’s easy to armchair quarterback in politics, but quite difficult to actually govern once elected. I believe U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, has done an admirable job of governing for our region while standing firm on her core principles.

She’s second to none when it comes to cutting spending. She bravely voted for a budget that balanced our deficit in 10 years, while weathering attacks from liberals and political opponents who think we can spend our way out of economic recession.

She’s also bucked her own party by calling for a responsible but quick end to the Afghanistan war, opposing the debt ceiling increase, and voting to cut bloated Pentagon spending.

Most importantly, she’s one of us. From all the way back to her Prairie High School days, she’s been a part of our community. It’s been great to have someone who understands Southwest Washington and Clark County fighting for us back in Washington, D.C.
