Letter: Stop the oil trains, now

The Columbian
Published: February 21, 2014, 4:00pm

The oil industry and the railroad industry would love to have you believe that oil on the rails going past our citizens, cities and natural beauty in the Columbia River Gorge will be safe. Are they kidding? Don’t they follow their own news? Trains derailing at an alarming rate? Fires that obliterate whole cities? Safe?

Are all of our homes, jobs, lives that an ecological bomb such as a train carrying oil will put on the line worth risking for some new jobs in the area? Is this a financial advantage for the Pacific Northwest? No, never. Stop this now.
