Gov. Jay Inslee is seeking applications for appointment to the Clark County Superior Court bench.

The appointee will succeed Judge Rich Melnick. The judge resigned from Clark County Superior Court, effective March 9, because he’s been appointed to the state Court of Appeals, Division 2.

At least two Clark County attorneys have said they plan to apply for the position. They are private attorney Bob Vukanovich, 56, of Battle Ground and Deputy Prosecutor Bernard Veljacic, 42, of Vancouver.

The deadline to apply is March 14.

Gov. Inslee plans to appoint Melnick’s successor in mid- to late April, said Lisa Harper, a Governor’s Office spokeswoman. The appointee will then be required to seek election in November, Harper said.

Superior Court judges are paid an annual salary of $151,809.
