Letter: Beam me across …

The Columbian
Published: February 26, 2014, 4:00pm

The other day as I was watching “Star Trek” and I had a great idea. Instead of wasting time and money on old technology such as light rail and car bridges, why not build transporter booths and equip every home and business with one. Problem solved.

What? You say that is ridiculous, transporter booths don’t exist. I say, let’s not let reality stop a great idea. After all, politicians ignore reality all the time. Why shouldn’t I? These politicians routinely offer plans which ignore the obvious fact that any bridge has to go to Oregon. I know they say Oregon isn’t the boss of us, but Oregonians are the boss of Oregon and when the governor said, “No light rail, no bridge, no kidding” just maybe they should have listened.

Instead they keep offering third no-toll, no-light-rail bridge proposals with only slightly better chances of being built than my transporter booths. Even The Columbian recently said, “OK. Let’s compromise and do it our way … Oh, I mean without light rail.”

I wouldn’t mind if politicians asked for a vote questioning whether we want a bridge with light rail or no bridge at all. At least that vote would reflect reality.
