Western Kentucky beats South Alabama 58-56

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Chris Harrison-Docks made a tear-drop runner from the middle of the lane with 4.3 seconds left to lift Western Kentucky over South Alabama 58-56 in the Sun Belt Conference opener on Thursday night.

Harrison-Docks finished with 11 points and four assists, George Fant had 10 points and 11 rebounds and T.J. Price led the Hilltoppers (9-5) with 19 points. Price became the 47th player in WKU history with 1,000 career points on a layup with 9:16 left in the first half.

South Alabama (6-8) tied the game at 56 on Mychal Ammons’ layup with 29.2 seconds to go. Ammons had also tied the game at 51 with 3:10 to play. WKU went ahead on Payton Hulsey’s layup and Antoine Allen and Harrison-Docks traded 3-pointers with less than 2 minutes to go.

Ammons had 15 points and five rebounds for South Alabama. Augustine Rubit and Allen and each scored 10.
