MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Keron DeShields, who finished with 17 points, stepped up to blunt a late threat as Montana defeated Sacramento State 82-70 Saturday night.

The Griz had lost a streak of 31 consecutive Big Sky home wins on Thursday. Zach Mills hit a 3-pointer to bring Sacramento State within 61-55 with 7:05 left. DeShields made sure the Griz (6-5, 1-1 Big Sky) wouldn’t lose two at home, converting a three-point play, then scoring off a steal and later grabbing a defensive rebound that led to a Chris Kemp putback dunk and the lead was suddenly back to 15 points, 70-55.

Jordan Gregory led the Griz with 20 points and Kareem Jamar added 14 and Kemp finished with 10.

Mills led the Hornets (4-7, 0-2) with 14 points, Mikh McKinney added 11. Sacramento State hit 7 of 23 3-pointers, all after halftime.

Montana’s beaten Sacramento State 14 in a row.
