MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Marcus Thornton scored 25 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists to lead William & Mary to a 78-67 win over Western Illinois on Saturday night.

William & Mary (8-5) trailed by as many as seven points in the first half before capturing the lead with an 11-2 spurt that included 3-pointers by Julian Boatner and Omar Prewitt, and took a 37-34 advantage into the break. The Tribe then held off Western Illinois in the second half, responding with a 9-1 run that included a Thornton 3-pointer after the Leathernecks tied the game at 40 on an Adam Link layup — the last time its lead would be challenged.

Prewitt contributed 18 points while Thornton and Kyle Gaillard added 10 apiece for the Tribe, which closed out its non-conference schedule with the win.

Garret Covington led the Leathernecks (6-9) with 26 points and Michael Ochereobia had 12.
