The Portland Winterhawks losing streak reached four games Saturday as the Victoria Royals came away with a 3-2 win in Western Hockey League action at the Memorial Coliseum.

Dominic Turgeon’s goal in the first period tied the game for Portland (25-12-2-2) at 1-1.

Victoria (28-14-0-2) held Portland nearly scoreless the rest of the game while adding two goals of its own. The tiebreaker came in the second period.

The Hawks controlled play through much of the third looking for the equalizer, but Victoria’s Steven Hodges scored at 16:40 mark for a 3-1 lead.

Late in the period with Hawks netminder Jarrod Schamerhorn on the bench for an extra attacker, Layne Viveiros scored to cut the deficit to 3-2 with 25 seconds remaining, but the Royals held on for the victory.

The Hawks will be back in action Wednesday at Everett.
