Letter: Faithful Christians do not judge

In the Jan. 1 letter “Print what the Bible has to say,” Marion Doolittle directs readers to a website that deals with homosexuality in the Bible.

The website refers to “homosexual acts” in its primary list of texts. The Bible does not mention homosexuality. In times of the Bible, homosexuality was not recognized for what it is. It is a human condition.

From a Christian point of view, homosexuals are people who were made that way by God. From a scientific view, all humans are on continuum from totally heterosexual to totally homosexual. Most of us are somewhere in between; some of us close to one end or the other.

The website lists no homosexual acts in the Gospels. We who call ourselves Christians follow the Jesus Christ who teaches us to love one another as he loved us. I cannot visualize Jesus saying, “Come unto me all you who are heavy laden except you LGBTs.” The website points out that Jesus commanded his followers not to be judgmental.

Other faiths may deal with this in various ways, but to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ we must treat homosexuals with the love, respect and support that we wish for ourselves.
