Three Evergreen schools were briefly locked down Monday afternoon while police searched for an armed robber in the Cascade Park area.

The robber, armed with a handgun, approached a woman in a parking lot near Southeast 131st Avenue and Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard at about 1:45 p.m., according to Vancouver Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp. He stole some money she was carrying, then fled.

The suspect was described as a clean-shaven man with dark skin, about 6 feet tall, wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark pants and a baseball cap. Police searched the area with a police dog for about an hour, but did not find him.

The shopping center where the robbery occurred, Columbia Square, includes several businesses such as Chuck’s Produce & Street Market and at least two banks. Kapp said it’s possible one of the local businesses has surveillance footage.

Mountain View High School, Wy’east Middle School and Riverview Elementary School were locked down for about a half-hour as police searched the vicinity for the robber. During a lockdown, school activities continue, but the ability to enter and leave the building is restricted.
