The Skyview Storm kept the tempo to their liking and were rewarded with the result they wanted in their Class 4A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball opener.

The host Storm beat the Camas Papermakers 46-40 on Monday in the first league game for both teams.

“Our focus was to slow them down,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “We did our best to slow down the tempo and I thought we did a good job of handling their pressure.”

Camas scored the first points of the game with a 3-pointer, but Skyview led 10-5 after one quarter and did not trail from there.

Three Skyview players scored in double figures, and Gruhler called it a true team effort. Dylan King led the way with 14 points, four steals and four assists. Marcus Lord added 11 points and Ben Spies 10 for the Storm. Tyler Hoffman had five Skyview assists.

Trevor Jasinski led Camas with 21 points, hitting all 10 of his free throws.

The Papermakers finished with only 10 field goals, but converted 16 of 18 free throws to stay within striking distance.
