SS Olmedo reaches minor league deal with Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Shortstop Ray Olmedo and three other players have agreed to minor league contracts with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The team announced Monday that infielder/outfielder James Darnell, right-hander Santiago Garrido and catcher Ali Solis also received invitations to major league spring training.

Olmedo has spent parts of six seasons in the major leagues with the Cincinnati Reds, Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox.

Darnell hit .246 in 15 games with Triple-A Tucson last season. Garrido was 0-5 with two saves and a 3.03 ERA in 39 appearances as a reliever for Double-A Northwest Arkansas in 2013, while Solis hit .179 between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis.
