Notebook: Fitness competition comes to Clark County Event Center

16 men's, 16 women's teams invited to event

Sixty-four of the top competitive fitness athletes in Washington and Oregon will participate in the first CrossFit Fort Vancouver Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Clark County Event Center.

Athletes will compete in pairs, with 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams invited to compete. The competition will challenge participants to complete a series of exercise challenges.

The event is sold out with 600 spectators expected to attend each day.

Doors open at 8 a.m. both days. The competition begins at 9 a.m. and the final heat will begin at about 3:20 p.m. each day.

Adam Neifer, CrossFit Fort Vancouver owner is scheduled to compete. Other CrossFit Fort Vancouver athletes participating are Jerome Perryman, Jessica Core, Erin Taylor, and Andrea Roozen.

Nathan Loren, who has represented CrossFit Fort Vancouver in the world championships, is organizing this competition.”This will be the most spectator-friendly event we could put together,” Loren said.

Little League signups

Listed below are in-person Little League registration events between Jan. 7 and Jan. 14. Many area leagues also offer online registration.

Players can play in leagues whose boundaries include either their home address, or the school they attend. An interactive online league finder is available at http://www.littleleaguewa.org/find-your-league.

A baseball player’s Little League age for this season is how old he will be on April 30, 2014. A softball player’s Little League age for this season is how old she was on Dec. 31, 2013.

Camas Little League — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Grass Valley Fire Station, 4321 NW Parker Street in Camas.

Cascade Little League — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Big Al’s, 16615 SE 18th St., in Vancouver.

Central Vancouver Little League — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Round Table Pizza, 5016 N.E. Thurston Way.

Fort Vancouver Little League — 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 13 at Washington Elementary School; 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Hazel Dell Elementary School; 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Franklin Elementary School.

Glenwood Little League — 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 14 at the New Traditions Building, 11815 N.E. 113th St., Ste. 110.

Hazel Dell Little League — 9-11 a.m. on Saturday at the league’s clubhouse at H.B. Fuller Community Park, Northwest 139th Street at Northeast Second Avenue.

Highlands Little League — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Hockinson Fire House, 17718 N.E. 159th St., Brush Prairie.

La Center Little League — 5-8 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the La Center Community Center, 1000 E Fourth St.

North Clark Little League — Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the North Clark Little League Snack Shack, 202 W. Christy St., Yacolt.

Lacrosse sign-up on Wednesday

Vancouver Youth Lacrosse will hold an in-person registration opportunity from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Burgerville restaurant at 99th Street and Highway 99 in Hazel Dell.

The registration is for the spring 2014 season for this new recreational lacrosse club. Programs include a stick-only, non-contact co-ed league for kids in kindergarten through second grade. There is one practice and one game each week.

For players in grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8, programs involve full gear and local and away games. Teams will have two practices and one game each week.To learn more or download registration forms, visit www.VancouverYouthLacrosse.com.

CCRC runs on Saturday

The Clark County Running Club at 10 a.m. on Saturday will host a choice of runs along the Heritage Trail.

Participants can choose to run three miles or seven miles along the trail. A 10-mile course will include three miles on the neighborhood streets.

The runs will start from the Lacamas Lake parking area on the north side of Lake Road just west of Everett Street. Visit ccrunning.org for details.
