Murray State moves past Eastern Kentucky 77-64

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Jarvis Williams had 19 points on perfect 9-of-9 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Murray State past Eastern Kentucky 77-64 Wednesday night.

The Racers (8-7, 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference) erupted early as Dexter Fields hit a trio 3-pointers to take a 14-3 lead just over three minutes into the game.

Eastern Kentucky (10-6, 1-2) crawled back to tie the game at 21, but Murray State answered with a 10-2 run to take a 38-29 advantage at halftime. A quick 7-2 surge early in the second half put the Racers ahead comfortably.

The Colonels trimmed their deficit to eight with 2:31 remaining, but Murray State made nine of their last 10 free throws to ice the game.

Murray State shot 51 percent from the field. Cameron Payne had 19 points and Fields added 15.

Corey Walden paced the Colonels with 24 points and Tarius Johnson contributed 16 with eight boards.
