Curt Schilling’s lawyer: Papers contradict charges

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A lawyer for former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling says new documents directly contradict the allegations in a lawsuit that Rhode Island’s economic development agency filed over his video game company’s collapse.

Sarah Concannon said after a brief court hearing Friday that documents she recently received contradict the charges and show they’re baseless. The documents had previously been withheld because lawyers for the Economic Development Corp. maintained they were privileged.

The EDC backed a $75 million loan for 38 Studios, which went bankrupt. Rhode Island is now responsible for some $90 million related to the transaction.

Schilling is among 14 defendants in the suit, which alleges fraud, misrepresentation and breach of fiduciary duty, among other things.

The EDC’s lead attorney on the case, Max Wistow, wasn’t immediately available to comment.
