Boston U handles Lafayette 89-78

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — John Papale scored 16 points to lead a balanced Boston University offense in an 89-78 win over Lafayette on Saturday in the first Patriot League matchup between the schools.

Boston U (11-6, 4-0) took a 37-34 lead into halftime before pulling away behind 13 second half points from Papale. Up 49-47, the Terriers used a 19-6 run to open a 68-53 lead with 9:56 left and Lafayette (4-11, 0-4) could not recover.

The Terriers shot 55.6 percent from the field, and hit 15 of 30 3-point attempts. Maurice Watson Jr. scored 14 points to go along with nine assists for the Terriers. Travis Robinson and Dom Morris each had 12 while Malik Thomas scored 11.

Dan Trist led Lafayette with 19 points. Nick Lindner had 16 and Joey Ptasinski 13.

Boston U, a first-year Patriot League member, played at Lafayette for the first time since 1971.
